Abbey Campaign Group Present DVD to US Senator
Mr Harry Ritchie, a committee member of the Arbroath Abbey World Heritage Campaign, presented a DVD outlining the history of Arbroath Abbey and the aims of the campaign, to former US Senator Trent Lott, on Tartan Day.
Mr Ritchie said: "It is fitting that your should be here on this special day as I understand you were responsible for the proposal of Senate resolution 155 in 1998 declaring this day be called Tartan Day."
He continued: "You are in good company in your association with Scotland as Thomas Jefferson, who drafted your Declaration of Independence in 1776, was a descendent of Sir Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray, and Bruce’s right-hand man."
Mr Ritchie concluded: "We are attempting to obtain World Heritage status for this great Abbey, in association with the Declaration of Arbroath, and to mark your visit we would like you to accept this DVD on our campaign and we hope to have the pleasure of your company again."
